Along with Martínez, Gaila Ceneida González was one of the scoring leaders on the Dominican side with 17 points and four aces, while captain Natalia Martínez, registered 10.
México’s top scorers were Fernanda Guitrón and Diana Valdez. Guitrón finished with 10 points and Valdez with 11. Mexican captain, Ivonne Martínez, converted four aces. “I feel happy because we played together. We worked very well in defense and attack. We kept calm and knew we could make it”, said Brayelin Martinez.
“We know that we are going to face a very good and tall team like USA, if God helps us we can win tomorrow and go for the first place”, Dominican captain Natalia Martinez indicated.
For Mexico, captain Ivonne Martínez, registered four aces. “We came out with a good attitude and much Desire. We could not win, but now we are focused in the match against Puerto Rico, the most important for us.”
Mexico’s head coach Estanislao Vachino said about Mexico: “We played two sets very good but in the end we made mistakes. We lost some ball, and even though we had a good experienced player like Jocelyn Urias, she could not focus on the game.”
Despite this situation “the girls showed courage in the first two sets if we played like that and improve a little, we can win and qualify”, Vachino added.
Dominican head coach Ariel Sainz, stated: “This was a very interesting match, México had a good tactical plan from the beginning with a serve strategy. We had to play with the ball separately from the net but the third set was easier for us to go on and play our best”.
