The new head coach of the Poland Men’s Volleyball National Team, Nikola Grbić, has made the first call-up of players.
The newly-appointed head coach of Poland Men, Serbian Nikola Grbić, announced a wide list of 29 players with whom he wants to start his work for the upcoming international season. These players will be taken into account when choosing the final list for the 2022 FIVB Volleyball Nations League and the 2022 FIVB World Championship on which Poland aims to defend the title.
Speaking of the squad that became the world champion, 4 years ago, several players are missing on Grbić’s list – some due to international retirement some due to the coach’s decision. Michał Kubiak had recently said goodbye to the national team. A few days back, Piotr Nowakowski, in a post on social media, revealed the end of playing with Poland Men after 14 years. He has won 2 world titles, one European Championship, and one FIVB World League. But, surprisingly, one name that was expected to appear in the first list of Grbić, but eventually didn’t appear, is Fabian Drzyzga. An experienced setter, a member of the national team for the last 12 years, was crossed out without an explanation.
Grbić’s list:
LIBEROS – Jakub Popiwczak, Kamil Szymura, Paweł Zatorski.
SETTERS – Jan Firlej, Marcin Janusz, Łukasz Kozub, Grzegorz Łomacz.
MIDDLE BLOCKERS – Mateusz Bieniek, Norbert Huber, Karol Kłos, Jakub Kochanowski, Mateusz Poręba, Krzysztof Rejno, Karol Urbanowicz.
OPPOSITE HITTERS – Bartłomiej Bołądź, Karol Butryn, Łukasz Kaczmarek, Bartosz Kurek, Maciej Muzaj.
OUTSIDE HITTERS – Bartosz Bednorz, Tomasz Fornal, Bartosz Kwolek, Wilfredo León, Bartłomiej Lipiński, Piotr Orczyk, Kamil Semeniuk, Jakub Szymański, Rafał Szymura, Aleksander Śliwka.
