Serbia National Team member and also the MVP of the 2016 FIVB World League, Marko Ivović, came to Katowice for the exhibition match in the honor of Zagumny without getting permission from his coach in Asseco Resovia Rzeszów.
“First, I got a call from the organizers immediately after the World League, but then it was more on a ‘maybe yes, maybe no’ basis. Then they called me a few days before the game, but my coach (Andrzej Kowal) said that I cannot play. I came here practically without anything, the organizers even gave me sneakers (laughs). But if I had not come I would be really sorry. Being here, on this court, with all the volleyball players, it’s really a wonderful thing. Perhaps for the last time in my life I had the opportunity to appear on the court with such legends of volleyball. I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to do something similar. I am really very happy that I could find in this group and, on Monday, I will definitely talk with the coach and I hope that he will not punish me too severely (laughs),” Ivović said to siatka.org.
