It’s Roberto Piazza, current coach of the Italian champions Azimut Modena Volley.
“I am following the situation in Poland,” says Piazza in an interview for przegladsportowy.pl!
Journalist of this Polish website took the advantage to ask Piazza about his interest in taking over the Polish national team if PZPS decide not to extend contract with Stephane Antiga.
“If you ask me about taking over national team of Poland I will say “Why not?”. Of course, it is a matter of negotiations with PZPS officials. But I am convinced that sooner or later I will return to Polish volleyball” says Roberto Piazza.
In the season 2014/2015 he was a coach of Jastrzebski Wegiel. The Italian experienced coach explained some differences between Italian league and Plusliga.
“The competition in Poland stands at the high level, the salaries of players and coaches are satisfying. In some volleyball teams in Italy you can’t count on such salaries as in Polish league. From the perspective of Polish volleyball, it is a good thing that a lot of national team members are playing in Poland” explains Piazza.
The Polish Volleyball Federation (PZPS) have not still decided about the senior’s team coach. Stephane Antiga had a few meetings with the PZPS’s officials but they didn’t come with the official information about his status.
Some media in Poland singled out two potential successors for the French coach – both are Argentinians, Raúl Lozano (currently head coach of Iran NT) and Javier Weber (Personal Bolívar).
Also, the Polish volleyball federation denied that they negotiated with potential candidate for the bench of the Polish national team.
“We talked with Antiga for several hours. He told us how it all looked from his perspective and we listened to his comments. We can say that Antiga thoroughly analyzed the Olympic tournament. He knows where mistakes were made. We will not hurry with the decision. Antiga still has a valid contract and we still need to meet with him once or twice. I want to add that the rumors are not true and that we have not talked with any other volleyball coach. It would not be fair to Stephane,” states representative of PZPS.
Recall that Piazza has already won one trophy in season 2016/2017 – Italian volleyball Super Cup.
