The vacant place of the second foreign player in Zenit-Kazan was taken by the Belgian international, Sam Deroo (the other foreigner is an American, Micah Christenson).

The 30-year-old outside hitter is well acquainted with Russian volleyball because he played two seasons (2019-2021) for Dinamo Moscow, with which he became the champion of Russia and also won the Russian Cup and the CEV Cup. Deroo played in the strongest leagues in Europe during his career. He was most productive in the Polish Grupa Azoty ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle with which he won the national championship three times and took two national cups. That’s the country where he spent last season too, more precisely in Asseco Resovia Rzeszów, scoring 292 points in 26 matches, including 22 aces and 25 blocks.

Deroo, the PlusLiga MVP in 2016-17 is one of the leaders of the Belgium National Team and its current captain, with which he won the CEV European League gold in 2013.
