RUS W: Karpol will lead Uralochka, rather than Russia at Yeltsin Cup

There is one thing you need to know about the roster of Russia women's national team which will play at the Yeltsin Cup 2016...

It is confirmed. Nikolay Karpol will be head coach of Russia women’s volleyball team at the Yeltsin Cup 2016, however he won’t have the best Russian players in the team. The Russian Volleyball Federation decided that the team, which will play at the Yeltsin Cup, will mostly consist of Uralochka players!

Recall that Karpol is the current head coach of Uralochka…

“Karpol will lead Uralochka, rather than Russia national team at the Yeltsin Cup. It would be very difficult to gather all our best players for this tournament, because someone needs a rest, some players have already joined their teams… Therefore, we have decided that Uralochka will represent our country at the Yeltsin Cup 2016,” said General Manager of the Russia women’s national team Vladislav Fedeev.

Yeltsin Cup 2016 is scheduled for September 19-21 in Yekaterinburg, with 4 teams participating in the tournament – Russia, Azerbaijan, Switzerland and Turkey.

It’s also somewhat hard to believe that Switzerland’s National Team is able to play there considering their participation in Euro 2017 qualification tournaments in Bulgaria and Romania. Or means ‘Switzerland’ = Volero like ‘Russia’ = Uralochka? Has Karpol invited his good old friend Stav Jacobi?
