Despite the victory, Zenit Kazan players showed weak play at the reception in the Russian Men’s Volleyball Championship match of Round 9 against Kuzbass Kemerovo.

“We played well. What we prepared for the game against Kuzbass, we got it. Kuzbass work well in the field, they won a lot of home games by this element. The only thing that was bad in our play was reception. There was no any. We will need to pay attention to it. Float serve is weapon number one in Russia – if you cannot serve like Wilfredo León, Maksim Mikhaylov and Matt Anderson. It is better to make a float serve. It causes as many problems as the strong serve,” Zenit coach Alekno said about poor reception of his team after the match.

These examples illustrate the claim in the best possible way: León had 14% positive reception and 0% perfect reception, while Verbov had 8% positive reception and also 0% perfect!

Alekno also commented on the performance of Viktor Poletaev, the best scorer of Kuzbass this season. He was loaned from Zenit to gain more experience and collected 13 points, being second best scorer of his team.

“It seems that he burned out a little bit. He wanted to prove himself, but if you take into consideration his games this season, he has done pretty well…,” Zenit coach said.
