As Yugoslavia, Serbia and Montenegro or simply Serbia the team has played 31 matches so far in the Final Round of the World Championship thereby registering 19 victories and 12 defeats. As they qualified for the 2006 edition held in Japan, Serbia and Montenegro played 10 matches in the three qualification rounds, winning eight and adding to their resume 27 sets won and only nine lost. As they starred at the 2006 World Championships in Nagoya and Osaka, Serbia and Montenegro won 9 of their 11 matches, claiming 30 sets and losing 12. By including also the qualifying rounds, the team played a total of 21 matches, with a record of 17 victories and four defeats.
In 2010 Serbia got the right to compete in the Final Round of the World Championship after winning the home qualifier held in the city of Subotica where they edged Spain, Romania, and Croatia. At the World Championship in Tokyo Serbia played 11 matches winning six to finish their campaign in eighth place. In order to make the Final Round of the 2014 edition scheduled for September 23-October 12 in Italy, Serbia needs to top the charts of the third round qualifier coming up in early January in Baku and which will be joined also by the national teams of Azerbaijan, Israel, and Estonia. They may also finish second in the group but need to be one of the second-placed teams with the best score to get the right to compete in the Final Round.
This year Serbia won bronze at the World Grand Prix Finals in Sapporo, Japan. The members of the Serbian national team also received a total of five individual awards in international competitions this year. Jovana Brakocevic, Milena Rasic, and Brankica Mihajlovic were included in the All Stars Team of the Grand Prix Finals in Sapporo. Jovana Brakocevic and Suzana Cebic received the awards for the Best Spiker and Best Receiver in the Final Round of the 2013 CEV Volleyball European Championship held in Berlin, Germany. Serbia was ranked fourth there while the team finished this year’s European League in fifth place. In 2013 the Serbian ladies played 32 matches recording 19 victories and 13 defeats, thereby winning 70 sets and losing 49.
