Five doctors recommended me to stay in the hospital, but after my refusal, one of them commented that it would be better to attend the final match than to stay in hospital room and to watch game on TV. I didn’t want to miss the final” says Camilo Placi for zurnal.rs.

“The nights after defeat against Italy were very stressful. I didn’t sleep well, I was watching the videos almost all night, drank coffee and smoked a lot of cigarettes. After the win against USA I felt very strong pain in my chest. I felt numbness in my left hand and started sweating. I knew that it was something bad, I assumed that I was going to get heart attack” says 59-year old Placi.

Camilo was lucky, because doctors from almost all national teams reacted quickly:

“It was very fast reaction of the doctors and thank God my body endured very strong attack. Afterwards, the official doctor of the competition came, who works at the nearly hospital in Rio, in which I spent the night” explains Placi!

“I didn’t want to leave Grbic and lads alone in the final, but I’m very sorry because I didn’t have much time to prepare the game. Also, I attracted the attention of the players with all my problems and they didn’t think about the game, which was the most important thing in that moment. But, anyway, congratulations to these guys and big “thank you” because they enabled me to get the most valuable medal at the World League in my career” says Placi.
