Turkey coach Gökhan Edman: “It was a really important game for us today because we didn’t want to play 9th to 16th place in the next rounds. I want to congratulate Mexico because they are always fighting. We just knew we had to have a good block and defense and we did it.”

Turkey captain Damla Cakiroglu: “This match wasn’t psychologically easy. We won 3-0 but I’m not satisfied with our play in the last set. I think we are better than Mexico, like in the game behaviour, so I expected that we win. Now we are in the first eight. Our target is to be the champion or at least the podium. Tomorrow we have a break and then we’ll go on.”

Mexico coach Estanislao Vachino: “In the first two sets we played with our typical line-up. In the last set we started to substitute the players more and our level was getting a little better. But it’s not possible to win if our three key players – Samantha Bricio, Alejandra Isiordia and Jocelyn Urias, play so bad. Generally it’s impossible to win if the important players don’t want to play at their best.”

Mexico captain Alejandra Isiordia: “Our biggest problem today was that our key players didn’t play well. It was the main difference.”
