While celebrating a point during the match between USA and Brazil, Aaron Russell did something that made him very, very unpopular among Brazilian fans. His gesture was interprated as a way of telling the home crowd to shut up, and that is something Brazilian fans did not like.
The Brazilian fans then left more than 9,000 comments on Russell’s Instagram account, and almost every single one of them consists a hashtag #ShutUpRussell. That hashtag is currently a trending topic in Brazil!
The fans are obviously very angry and they demand an apology from the American athlete.

The crowd only boo when they’re serving! To disrupt the opponent. Nothing new! But do the shut up gesture to the crowd? Not nice at all! Nobody did this! Ever. But ok, this is sport! Let’s handle with this just on court, with a beautiful game!

I’m not even American and I love the Brazilian team but Brazilian fans suck. You are rude as fk to other people but when they are rude back you feel offended? That sheer level of hypocrisy makes me puke.
It doesn’t matter, Brazilians need to release their anger it happened to be Russell did an extraordinary gesture. Great comeback USA beating Brazil in the home… too much tension in the court.
