At the finish of the 2020-21 season, in March 2021, while living a great phase at Poland’s top division side E.Leclerc Moya Radomka Radom, Johnson was diagnosed with colon cancer. Then a 29-year-old outside hitter underwent chemotherapy and radiation. Johnson luckily won the battle for life and is set to return to action.

The MVP of the Finnish Championship (Mestaruusliiga) in 2016-17 and Philippine Championship (Premier Volleyball League) in 2019, as well as two-time Best Digger of the Frech Ligue A (2018-19 and 2019-20), has signed for Heidelberg Volkswagen, newcomers to the Spanish Championship (Liga Iberdrola).
