The national team of the Netherlands did a great job this afternoon by beating superpower Argentina in its second 2022 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship match in Pool F in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

On the foundation of the performance of their bomber Nimir Abdel-Aziz (32 points), the Dutch players also won their second group match at the World Championship 2022. ‘Oranje’ reversed a 0-2 deficit against Argentina in Ljubljana to win 3-2. With the victory over South Americans, the team of head coach Roberto Piazza is assured of a place in the eighth final.

In the fifth and decisive set, the Netherlands made a bad start (0-3), but that damage was quickly repaired. Thijs Ter Horst came into service at 6-5 for Argentina and he produced a beautiful service run thanks to which his teammates reached 12-6. Argentina, the winner of the Olympic bronze in Tokyo, is now on the verge of elimination from the tournament after suffering the second five-set setback. Bruno Lima and Luciano Vicentín top-scored Argentina with 17 points apiece. The latter added 4 blocks, just like his teammate Nicolás Zerba.

Canada recorded its first win at the World Champs. Against outsiders China, in the match of Pool E in Ljubljana, the NORCECA side didn’t show a spectacular play but ultimately took a 3-point worth win that left it in contention for the elimination phase.

Ryan Sclater tallied 16 points for Canada. Zhang Jingyin scored 12 for China, who remained winless and pointless after two games.
