Daniele Santarelli put his name in the history of Serbian women’s volleyball as the first foreign head coach who led its national team to win a gold medal.
Daniele Santarelli has had a heavy burden on his shoulders to replace a highly successful head coach, Zoran Terzić, on the bench of the Serbia Women’s National Team. And luckily for him, but also for the fans in Serbia, he continued the medal harvest for this nation from the Balkans.
“When we came to the tournament, everyone put pressure on us, saying that we must take another trophy. We know how demanding it is. We had our feet on the ground all the time, showed the right attitude, and that’s why I’m very happy. Especially since we defeated one of the best teams in the world in the final,“ said the Italian expert after the gold medal dispute against Brazil in the 2022 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship.
“I told them (the players) the moment it dawned that Sunday was a beautiful day and that it could become unforgettable. I saw victory in their eyes. I was sure that they’d triumph,“ concluded Santarelli.
“I really don’t know what to say. These girls, this energy… I want to thank everyone who supported us. A special thanks to my family (from Bosnia and Herzegovina) who came to support me. I just enjoyed it, that’s the most important thing. I like playing volleyball,“ the Serbia National Team star opposite stated.
