At home in Antalya, Turkish teams had a good start to the 2022 FIVB Women’s Volleyball Club World Championship.
On Day 1, the two Turkish teams made a strong start to the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship 2022 in Antalya. In the opening match of Pool A, the official hosts Eczacıbaşı Dynavit İstanbul defeated Brazil’s Dentil Praia Clube 3-0 (25-14, 25-15, 25-18), and in Pool B, VakıfBank Spor Kulübü defeated Kazakhstan’s Kuanysh Club 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-17).
Tijana Bošković, the Serbian opposite and captain of Eczacıbaşı, led her team to victory with a match-high 20 points and a 70% attack success rate. Praia’s top scorer with 10 points was opposite Tainara Santos. It must be said that the Brazilian vice-champions lost surprisingly easily to the Turkish bronze medalists, regardless of the fact that the ’Tigers’ are the current leaders of the home league.
American middle blocker Chiaka Ogbogu and Italian opposite Paola Egonu shared the top scorer honors in VakıfBank’s expected straight-set victory over Kuanysh, contributing 15 points apiece. The former registered an 81% success rate in attack. On Kuanysh’s side, French outside hitter Maëva Orlé was the most prolific scorer with 15 points.
