In a thrilling turn of events, hosts Thailand defeated reigning champions Japan in a gripping 3-2 match (25-23, 19-25, 20-25, 25-20, 15-11) during the 22nd Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship’s semifinals in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand. The victory paves the way for Thailand to meet China, another unbeaten team, in the much-anticipated championship final.
Star player Chatchu-On Moksri was a standout for Thailand, netting 20 points, while Ajcharaporn Kongyot and Thatdao Nuekjang added 18 and 11 points respectively. On the Japanese side, Miwako Osanai contributed 18 points, supported by Yuki Nishikawa and Haruyo Shimamura with 17 and 16 points respectively.
In another semifinal match, China showcased their prowess by dominating Vietnam in a decisive 3-0 win (25-13, 25-12, 25-22). China’s Yang Hanyu stood out with a remarkable 14 points, supported by Wu Mengjie and Liu Yu with 12 and 11 points respectively. Statistical comparisons underscored China’s dominance in kills, blocks, and aces. Despite the tough loss, Vietnam’s Tran Thi Bich Thuy managed to score 8 points.
With these results, while Thailand and China prepare for the gold medal match, Japan will contest Vietnam for the bronze.
