The world of Volleyball is immersed in sorrow after the sudden demise of Olympic champion and renowned middle blocker, Walewska Oliveira, on Thursday (21). Walewska, universally revered in the sport, was 43. The exact cause of her passing remains undisclosed.
A beacon of Brazil’s volleyball heritage, Walewska attained the pinnacle of success with a gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and was instrumental in securing numerous victories in domestic and international volleyball competitions. The volleyball community and sports enthusiasts remember her as a towering figure whose contributions left an indelible imprint on the sport.
Her club career saw her exhibiting unrelenting passion and dedication with teams like Minas, São Caetano, Murcia, Rexona, and Praia Clube. Her accomplishments include multiple Superliga championships and Super Cup titles. Walewska’s recent endeavors included the release of her biography, “Other Nets,” and a documentary, “The Last Act.”
