Legendary Greek player Đurić has decided to retire from playing for the national team. The Bosnia-born player, who wore the jersey of the Greece Men for 13 years (2007 – 2020) during which he collected 126 caps, revealed his decision in an interview for the website of the Greek federation (EOPE).
“I’ve been thinking about it for a long time but I decided last year. I’ve suffered a lot in the last decade and all my summers have been full and difficult. My parents in Serbia, my current wife in Italy, while I’m in Greece ‘fighting’ for the national team every summer. So, when I got married and had a child, I decided to put my family first. I want to be with them during summers, I don’t want to be with a suitcase in my hand like it was in the last decade. Especially the last two years have been exhausting for me and I think it’s time for the younger ones to play and I hope that they will become better than me in the national team,” the 31-year-old player, who can cover the positions of the middle blocker and opposite hitter, said.
It’s yet unknown whose jersey will Đurić wear in the next club season after finishing the previous one with Italy’s Itas Trentino.
