The Dutch female volleyball star Lonneke Slöetjes made a decision to end her professional career.

Many volleyball fans in the Netherlands, but also beyond given that she’s beloved across the world, hoped that Slöetjes will return to playing after she announced going into temporary retirement in November. The 302-time international with ‘Volleybal dames’ took a break after the 2019/20 club season which she spent in Italy’s Savino Del Bene Scandicci. Now, a 30-year-old opposite hitter has decided to devote time to her family, boyfriend, and her social life.

“I want to let you all know that I’ve decided not to return to play volleyball again. I’ve had a lot of time to think about my future the past year and I realized that it’s time for me to move on. Of course, I’m emotional because the chapter of such a big part of my life closes but I hope new chapters will bring me energy and joy,” Slöetjes posted on her social networks.

With them, Slöetjes won the CEV Champions League and the FIVB Club World Championship twice each, the Turkish league three times, the Turkish cup twice, and the Turkish Super Cup once. She was voted Best Opposite Spiker in the CEV Champions League and Turkish league one time each.

With her country’s national team, Slöetjes was stopped in winning the title in the CEV EuroVolley on two occasions. Individually, as a part of the ‘Volleybal dames’, Slöetjes was awarded Best Opposite Spiker in the 2016 Rio Olympics, then in the CEV EuroVolley twice, and in the FIVB World Grand Prix once.

She will be sorely missed... Here's hoping that she'd change her mind further down the road—but hopefully not that much further!

ITA M: Perugia focused on bringing Grbić

He signed a 2-years contract with Zaksa last year. He won Polish Cup with them, not sure what happened so Zaksa lost the championship. They kicked out Lube and Zenit from the Champions League and have a good chance of becoming European champion although Trentino didn't win anything this year so this is their last chance.
He started his coaching career with Perugia so everything is possible... Reply

USA M: Russell undergoes surgery in US, will miss Tokyo Olympics

Russell had one of the best sports surgeons in the world work on him so I expect he will be in great hands. While devastating for any athlete Russell is young enough to have both Paris and Los Angeles in his Olympic future at very high level.
Piacenza is building something very special there and Russell is a perfect type of player and professional to attract others to come there and build around.
Wishing him a full and speedy recovery. Reply
