Brazilian branch of the Dutch-British multinational consumer goods company “Unilever” has been sponsoring a four-time consecutive Brazilian Women’s Superliga champions, currently under the name of Rexona-Sesc, since the club was founded in 1997.
But as “Unilever” announced on its website, it will stop funding a 12-time Superliga title holders and also a three-time South American Club Championship winners at the end of the season, more precisely after the 2017 FIVB Women’s Club World Championship, in May.
Rexona-Sesc was founded as Paraná Vôlei Clube, playing in Curitiba, Paraná, until 2003 when they moved to Rio de Janeiro and named Unilever Vôlei. Before getting current name Rexona-Sesc, they played under the name Rexona-AdeS (“Rexona“ is the brand of “Unilever“ company).
“Sesc“ (Serviço Social do Comércio – a private, non-profit and national institution, focused on the social well-being of its clientele, maintained by the entrepreneurs of the trade of goods and services in the areas of education, health, leisure, culture and assistance) will keep supporting the team from Rio, but it is not known are they going to do it alone or with another sposnosr like they did with “Unilever“.
