Czech Republic concocted a spirited offense in their 3-1 victory (32-30, 25-21, 19-25, 24-20) against Croatia in the first match of the 2014 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix season on Friday at the Baluan Sports and Culture Palace.

The Croatian side worked hard in earning their points but they suffered from an attack error to lose the first set at 32-30.

Croatia could not fully steam past their opponents as they suffered from errors. They tried to put up a more gallant stance, pounding and playing catch-up like they did late in the previous set. However, another attack error on the Croatian side led to Czech victory in the second set, 25-21.

Nikol Sajdova and Veronika Trnkova stepped up on offense for the Czechs but Croatia proved more steady, which gave them a convincing 25-19 victory in the third set.

Fabris (CRO) continued to heat up from both flanks but it was getting harder for the Croatians to defend against Czech hitter Havlickova, who ended up as top scorer with 24 points. The fourth set closed out at 24-20 for the Czech team.
