With the absence of Zhu Ting, China was an easy prey for the fierce rivals Japan on the Day 2 of the 19th Continental Championship, 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 26-24). Still, the Japanese NT did not play with all the main players, as their head coach Kumi Nakada decided to sideline Yuki Ishii and Haruka Miyashita, which he explained with these words: “We’re just trying and experimenting different lineups in official tournaments like this.”

Rika Nomoto, Risa Shinnabe, and Sarina Koga scored 13 points each, while in China only Ye Jin made double digits, 10 points. Since Japan has secured the pole position in Pool B (which consists of three teams) for the Top 8, China and Australia will fight in the last round to progress to the next stage of the tournament as the second-placed in the rankings.

Tomorrow, South Korea and Vietnam will decide against each other which team will go the Top 8 as the first placed in Pool C as both got 2-0 and 6 points.

It is the same situation in Pool A where the hosts Philippines and Kazakhstan will battle for the pole position in the last round as they both have 1-0 and 3 points (there are three teams in this pool).

As for Pool D, the last remained pool, it is clear that Thailand and Chinese Taipei secured their berths for the next stage and their mutual encounter in the last round will determine the order in which they will go further.
