Wei Qiuyue, a former captain of the Chinese National Team, said goodbye to the volleyball after her team Tianjin lost to Beijing, yesterday, in the match for the 5th place in the 2017 National Games of China, in Tianjin.

She has retired from the international volleyball right after the 2016 Rio Olympics where she won the gold medal, which was her second title with the NT after the 2015 FIVB World Cup. In addition, Wei Qiuyue won a silver medal in the 2014 FIVB World Championship and 2007 FIVB World Grand Prix as well as the bronze medal in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

The reason why she has retired was a chronical problem with her knee which she had during the last season with Tianjin. The injury got worse during the National Games.

At the end of the match versus Beijing, when Wei Qiuyue revealed she is going to retire, her teammates burst into tears as well as some of the fans in the stands. The moment was even more emotional as she decided to leave the volleyball in the city where she was born, playing for the local club for 13 out of 14 years of her professional career.
