Driven by the birthday-boy Leandro Vissotto, who turned 36 on a gameday, the third seed Taubaté beat the No.1 seed SESI in the third match of the Superliga Cimed 2018-2019 playoff finals to take a 2-1 lead in the series. In the most balanced encounter of the series, in which SESI played as a home team, Taubaté prevailed in the tie-break, partially 20-25, 25-23, 27-25, 28-30 and 15-13.
The veteran opposite Vissotto scored 23 points for his team, including 3 kill blocks of which he set up the last one on a match point, while Otávio Pinto set up 5 kill blocks. Douglas Souza made 73% positive reception (15 digs, 67% excellent) before spraining his ankle in the fourth set and leaving the court. Alan Souza and Éder Carbonera (3 aces) scored 19 points apiece for SESI. Murilo Endres made 76% positive reception (21 digs, 1 error, 57% excellent).
Game 4 is scheduled for May 5 in the same hall in which Game 3 was held, the Arena Suzano, but this time in front of Taubaté’s fans, who will have a chance to celebrate the title in case their team achieves victory.
