“We spend more time warming up than playing match” – with this sentence Rodrigo Quiroga has described a new point system in Brazilian Superliga this season.

But, he also said that he is not only one who dislikes this system.

“The playing time is shortened. I don’t like it and same with my fellow players and coaches. I have read many comments from the public and most of them do not like it either.”

“I don’t know what the argument of the TV producers was. There’s no sport that lasts that short time. I don’t agree at all. If you measure, the ball is in play for an hour while other sports gets at least two hours. The fans watch volleyball because they like it and if you cut the time then it’s like in football where you let them play the first half and cut the second.”

About the new regulation, he dismissed that it change the preparation, but it affects the way they play…

“I don’t think it will change something about training. It’s just that we need to adjust the concentration and decrease the margin of error, especially on service because you can’t make more than two mistakes. Now 4 points of difference are a lot, while before they didn’t define anything. The one that arrives first at 16, if nothing strange happens, wins the set; before there was nothing resolved at that moment. It’s true that the game goes quicker, so you get faster at the end of each set”.
