On 11th August 2012, the Brazilian women’s team overcame USA after losing the first set 11-25 followed by winning three straight sets by scores of 25-17, 25-20 and 25-17. This is the second consecutive Gold medal for the Brazil women’s Volleyball team, who entered the tournament ranked second in the world behind the Americans.
Speaking about the victory, Dr. Ary Graça said: “I am exceptionally proud of the women’s Volleyball team and the Gold medal success that they have achieved here at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. It is a fantastic result and very well deserved as they have worked incredibly hard to get this to stage and the Gold medal is testament of their hard work.”
On 12th August 2012, the Brazilian men’s team won the Silver medal after losing to Russia in the Olympic Men’s Final in a five set (2-3) having beaten Italy (3-0) in the Olympic Men’s Semi-Final.
Dr. Ary Graça stated, “I would like to congratulate the Brazil men’s Volleyball team for their Silver medal. They put in a strong performance and unfortunately the Gold medal was not achieved this time but I look forward to future successes for them as they are a committed and talented team.”
