The CEV reacted to the situation with the coronavirus pandemic by partly shortening the qualifications for the next edition of the men’s Champions League a few days after to the draw. The format of six pools of three teams in the First Round will remain but the playing formula is now modified.
Initially, each team per pool was to organize one tournament at home. Instead, in consultations with the participating clubs, CEV determined only one host for four pools, meaning that only three matches in total will be played per these pools. Pools that will have the shortened formula are B (Galați, Romania), C (Jastrzębie-Zdrój, Poland), E (Amriswil, Switzerland), and F (Trento, Italy). Unlike the remaining two pools, matches in these four pools would require long-distance trips of clubs.
In addition, the CEV set the exact dates of all tournaments within the preliminary schedule.
