C.S.M. Lugoj achieved the biggest international success in club history by qualifying for the semifinals of the 2023 CEV Women’s Volleyball Challenge Cup.
Romania’s C.S.M. Lugoj qualified for the semifinals of the European Cup for the first time. They advanced to the top four of the third-tier international club competition in the “Old Continent“ after defeating Belgian team Asterix Avo Beveren 3-1 at home in the second leg of the quarter-finals of the CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup 2023 | Women. Lugoj also won the first leg with a score of 3-2. In the rematch, they started weaker but managed to recover and win the next three sets.
Reale Mutua Fenera Chieri of Italy defeated Dutch Sliedrecht Sport in four sets at home in the second leg of the quarterfinals to become one of three teams to secure a semifinal berth in the last two days. A victory for the Serie A side at home followed a straight-set win on the road.
Yesterday, Germany’s VfB Suhl Thüringen eliminated VK Prostějov from the Czech Republic with a double 3-1.
There’s one more vacant semifinal spot, which will be filled by either Serbia’s Jedinstvo Stara Pazova or Portugal’s AJM FC Porto (3-0 in the first leg).
