CHALLENGE CUP W: Perfect night for Romanian clubs, Nantes leave Randaberg at single digits in 2 of 3 sets

The Romanian representatives Știința Bacău went on the rematch of the 16th finals of the female 2018 CEV Challenge Cup against Azerrail Baku with a confident 3-1 win. But, the Azerbaijani side ran them over by a 3-0 (25-23, 27-25, 25-14) at A.Y.S. Sport Hall Baku. So, the golden set had to decide which team will progress to the 8th finals. Știința were slightly more focused and won it by a 15-13! Denisa Adriana Rogojinaru made 14 points for the winning side while Katerina Zhidkova scored 23 for Azerrail.

Another Romanian club punched the ticket for the 8th finals – C.S.M. Târgoviște. They achieved a straight-set win against Levski Sofia from Bulgaria in the rematch thanks to 17 points from the Spanish opposite Milagros Collar. Along with a 3-1 win on the road in the 1st leg, it was quite enough to secure them a berth in the next round.

Olympiacos SFP Piraeus from Greece outclassed four-time defending champions of Spain, Minis de Arluy VB Logroño, in front of own crowd and materialized a hard-fought win in the 1st leg (3-2). The German opposite Saskia Hippe topped Olympiacos, who had 14 kill blocks by a team, with 19 points.

Nantes VB once again demolished Randaberg IL. We can freely say the French side embarrassed the team from Norway in the rematch as they left them on single digits in two of three sets – 25-8, 25-11, 25-9!
