USA qualified to the big final after they defeated the host team with 3-1 (25-23, 25-20, 18-25, 25-18) so the spectators in Nanjing will once again watch the same opponents in the matches for the medals.
Recall that in their matches in Pools, USA defeated Turkey with 3-2 while Brazil outplayed China with 3-0.
Today, Michelle Bartsch scored 24 points followed by Foluke Akinradewo 14 and Kelly Murphy 13 while Kimberly Hill who entered the game in the third set scored 10 points. For China Zhu Ting scored 18 points while her heiress Yingying Li 14 points.
USA captain Jordan Larson-Burbach said “We knew it was going to be a tough environment to play in. This is a great crowd here in China, but we came out strong. I thought our team did a nice job of riding off the wave of emotion. I am just really proud that the team won today. I am excited to compete in the final.”
China coach Lang Ping said “I think every player fought in this match. Many players had the opportunity to get into the court for practice. It is such a pity for us to lose the first set. There are some improvements on the combination of defense and block. This is what we can improve on in tomorrow’s match.”
