“We like VfB” – that is the motto of the campaign that shall help bring the team from the Lake of Constance back to the top in German Volleyball. “This word, we, stands for the togetherness between the club and the fans“, explains CEO Jürgen Hauke. “Together we want to achieve our goals for the season, to get to the finals in the Bundesliga and the DVV Cup and make the second round in the 2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League.”
VfB head coach Stelian Moculescu even added something more to these ambitious goals: “Achieving the finals isn’t enough. We want to win these finals to bring the German championship as well as the DVV Cup back to Friedrichshafen.” Strong words were hence shared with the media at the press conference that was attended also by Max Günthor and Christian Dünnes.
To make this possible, the team underwent major changes. With Victor Yosifov and Svetoslav Gotsev from Bulgaria, Jenia Grebennikov and Baptiste Geiler from France, Germany’s Christian Dünnes and Jan Zimmermann as well as Roland Gergye from Hungary seven new players were contracted by the club. Stelian Moculescu and new team captain Max Günthör have built up a team out of young, ambitious but also experienced players. “We are in a good shape“, Günthör is satisfied with his teammates. “Everybody is extremely motivated.”
“Last year the loss against Knack ROESELARE was the worst moment in our season”, Stelian Moculescu recalled. “This must not happen again”. And the team will make their utmost to show a different face in the 2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League. But Moculescu knows their task in Pool G will be tough. With Knack ROESELARE, Zaksa KEDZIERZYN–KOZLE and Galatasaray ISTANBUL, VfB will fight for making the Playoffs. “We have to win our home games”, Moculescu said. “This won’t be a walkover for us.”
The whole season won’t be a walkover. But the “Häfler” are prepared. “Some players discovered muscles whose existence was unknown to them”, Moculescu smiled at the first press conference of the season. “We have trained hard and we are ready for the new season.”
