It is known that sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words. However, in this case that picture is even more valuable for it portrays one thousand young children and pupils playing Volleyball who attended the mini-volley festival that the Hellenic Volleyball Federation organized this past weekend at Panathinaiko stadium with the support of the Hellenic Olympic Committee.

250 teams for a total of more than a thousand children played Volleyball for more than two hours in the splendid scenario of Panathinaiko, the stadium that played host to the first modern Olympic Games back in 1896. One team traveled 2,000 miles from the city of Soufli in the southern Province of Evros to make it to Athens, play there and then go back home.

More than a thousand children were in attendance together with Greece’s women’s national team whose players mingled with the participants all day long. As the final whistle was blown, the young players formed the word “Volley” on the field of Panathinaiko and expressed their intention to meet again next year.
