The official presentation will be attended also by the President of the Italian Volleyball Federation, Carlo Magri, and by many friends and former teammates of the late European champion. A road show stopping in another eight cities is planned for the coming weeks.
Bovolenta died aged 37 on March 24 in Macerata after suffering a stroke during a Volleyball match starring Forli’ and the junior team of Lube Banca Marche Macerata. Bovolenta was one of the members of Italy’s golden generation; together with his national team he won gold at the European Championship in 1995 and 1999 – adding to his resume a silver medal in 2001 and a bronze in 1997 – and was a four-time winner of the FIVB World League (1995, 1997, 1999, and 2000). Bovolenta was also a silver medallist from the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta and won the 1995 World Cup in Japan.
Nicknamed “Bovo”, since his death in March 2012, many people have joined forces to pay tribute to his memory especially via the so-called “Bovo Day”, where many of his former teammates have come together to play a Volleyball match in his name.
By the time Bovolenta died, Lisi was pregnant with the couple’s fifth child.
