First Simon Giannelli, then Ivan Zaytsev. Two pillars of the Italy National Team sustained injuries during the group stage of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics men’s volleyball tournament but, according to the country’s federation (Fipav), the condition of both is satisfactory ahead of the quarterfinals.
It is announced that captain Zaytsev, who injured the fourth finger of his left hand in the match with Poland and due to which he left the court against Iran before the end of the encounter, was immediately subjected to examinations, revealing a capsuloligamentous trauma of the metacarpophalangeal joint of the finger, excluding fractures. As for Giannelli, his condition is regularly monitored by the medical staff and is constantly improving.
Both players were spared in the last-round encounter against Venezuela, while Giannelli was spared already in the second match.
