In a sold-out PalaParini arena (1200 spectators), and many fans that could not make it in, Monza came out on top to take a 2-0 lead and have a first opportunity to celebrate promotion in the A1 when they host game 3 on Saturday. The hosts had sprinted off the starting blocks with a spectacular 93% in attack in the first set but Monza stayed close all second set and had the final push to tie it. They then built on that momentum and escaped on aces from Padura Diaz and Puliti in the third. Cantù tried to ignite a come-back early in the fourth (6-4) but Monza made some spectacular plays to get back in front (11-12, then 13-16). They would cling onto this advantage till the end.
