Grbić and Vujević
“This is the first time we are participating in the CEV Volleyball Champions League,” said Vujević the captain odf Sir Safety Perugia.
“We came here step by step starting from Italy’s second division. It is a huge success and much credit has to be given to our president as well as to the management of our club, as they have been able to improve year after year. And now we are ready to join a competition that everybody would love to be a part of, but that only a few have the chance to play. We have been drawn in a difficult pool with two teams – Halkbank ANKARA and TOURS VB – who won their respective national leagues. We will always try to play to win and want to make the next round of the competition by finishing first or second in the group. We will try to assert our quality and goals playing on the court, and not by making any overstatement. We will start with a home match against Halkbank, a team which has got plenty of world-class players on their roster. However, we will play before our crowd and we want to seize the night because a good start would be very important for the remainder of the competition.”
Nikola Grbić who last year played his last competitive season with Zenit KAZAN said:
“The CEV Volleyball Champions League is a very tiring and difficult competition where you play the best teams in Europe. It is at the same time the world’s most prestigious club competition and we are pleased to be able to participate. Many would like to be in our position now. Halkbank is the clear-cut favourite of the opening round, but all other opponents are formidable as well. I do not want to look too far ahead so I prefer to take it one step at a time and once we will be close to the matches, we will focus on each one of the games on schedule. Our goal is to play as many matches as possible and to win every time. There are several strong teams around and it is difficult to make any predictions about who will win in the end. I am thinking about the Russian teams, plus Halkbank ANKARA, PGE Skra BELCHATOW, and Cucine Lube TREIA. These are all teams with world-class players who can beat any opponent. This is exactly what makes the Champions League a competition of the highest calibre.”
