Both Italian Men’s and Women’s Volleyball League announced the names of the clubs that earned the right to compete in the national championships next season – 14 in male and 12 in female tournament.

Comparing to last season, there is only one change in Men’s Serie A1 for 2017/2018, but the three in Women’s.

BCC Castellana Grotte are the only newcomers in male top division of Italy for the upcoming season as they beat Monini Spoleto in Division 2 (Serie A2) play-offs for the promotion. Castellana Grotte will take place of Exprivia Molfetta, who withdrew for economic reasons, in Serie A1.  It will not be the first adventure of Castellana Grotte (also known as New Mater Volley) in Italian top divison. They took part in 2010/11 and were relegated but returned for 2012/13. At the end of that season, Castellana Grotte were forced to move all the way to Division 4 due to lack of funds.

Italian Men’s Championship for 2017/18 (Campionato di SuperLega UnipolSai):

BCC Castellana Grotte, Cucine Lube Civitanova, Top Volley Latina, Azimut Modena, Revivre Milano, Gi Group Monza, Kioene Padova, Sir Safety Conad Perugia, LPR Piacenza, Bunge Ravenna, Biosì Indexa Sora, Diatec Trentino, Calzedonia Verona and Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia.

As for female Serie A1, there are three newcomers. Due to the fact three clubs renounced playing top division for not being able to financially support their participation (Südtirol Bolzano and Metalleghe Montichiari) and Club Italia being relegated as the last placed in 2016/17 Regular Season ranking, these clubs entered:

Lardini Filottrano as Serie A2 Regular Season winners, SAB Grima Legnano as Serie A2 play-off for promotion winners and MyCicero Pesaro as Serie A2 play-off for promotion silver medalists. All three are Serie A1 rookies, but Pesaro have the most prominent name among the trio as they are legal successors of powerhouse Scavolini Pesaro, a three-time national champions. At the end of the 2012/13 season, in which they participated as Robursport Volley Pesaro, they withdrew from Serie A1 and merged with local club Snoopy Pallavolo to make a club that exists at the moment.

Italian Women’s Championship for 2017/18 (Lega Pallavolo Serie A Femminile):

Imoco Volley Conegliano, Pomì Casalmaggiore, Igor Gorgonzola Novara, Foppapedretti Bergamo, Liu Jo Nordmeccanica Modena, Savino Del Bene Scandicci, Unet Yamamay Busto Arsizio, Il Bisonte Firenze, Saugella Team Monza, Lardini Filottrano, SAB Grima Legnano and MyCicero Pesaro.
