The reigning champion Dominican Republic, in its unbeaten streak (4-0), managed to brush aside Cuba in a 3-0 semifinal victory (25-13, 25-19, 25-15), aiming for their sixth consecutive, and eighth overall, Gold Medal.
The star-studded Dominican lineup saw Jineiry Martinez shine brightly, scoring a staggering 11 points from blocks out of her total 16 points. Gaila Gonzalez and Yonkaira Peña contributed to the victory with 15 and 14 points, respectively. On the Cuban side, Ailama Cese led with seven points, aided by Diaris Pérez and Dayana Martínez who scored six and five points, respectively.
Meanwhile, Puerto Rico staged a surprise, taking down favored Colombia in a 3-1 upset (25-23, 25-15, 25-8, 25-18). Brittany Abercrombie spearheaded the Puerto Rican triumph with 21 points, topping the game’s score chart. For Colombia, Ana Karina Olaya and Dayana Segovia were the standout performers, both chalking up 16 points each.
While Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico are set for a thrilling grand finale, the bronze medal face-off will see Cuba and Colombia vie for the third spot.
