Abe stated that the most important sporting event in the world, the Olympic Games, will be held in Tokyo as planned, from July 24 to August 9. He denied that the ongoing spread of the coronavirus that caused deaths of more than 5,000 people and infected more than 149,000 across the globe will postpone the event. Some suggested, including U.S. President Donald Trump, to postpone the Games for one year. Of course, Abe added the International Olympic Committee (IOC) will have the final word on the matter.
The volleyball tournament at the Tokyo Olympics is set to start on July 25 and finish on August 9. Officially, Japan has more than 750 cases and 21 deaths from the COVID-19 disease that already shut down many major sporting tournaments such as NBA, Formula 1, UEFA Champions League… This included all major volleyball events such as CEV Champions League, Asian Men’s Club Championship, most of the national championships (we’re updating the list on a daily basis), etc.
