These coincided with the completion of the largest ever number of school teams participating in the School Cup Finals at the same venue. 27 teams at Under 14 and double that number at under 16 and 18 years made it the biggest ever Northern Ireland Schools Volleyball competition ever.

The Saint Patrick’s Weekend matches saw the Amber Coast Select from the Republic of Ireland play the Northern Ireland men’s national team who will join this coming May the first round of the qualification process to the 2014 FIVB World Championships. The Dubliners won the first set but were overhauled by the determined young Ulstermen who cruised past 3-1.

The women’s event saw three teams celebrate St Patrick with excellent volleyball. NIR Champions Queen’s University Belfast earned their ‘Crowns’ with 3-0 success over the NIR Select and league side Polonia Syrena. The young NIR Select women’s squad who like their male counterparts are in training for FIVB qualifiers in Belgium in May, took second place in a hard-fought match against the ever improving Polish Exiles.
