After debuting this year in the CEV Volleyball Champions League, Tomis CONSTANTA continued to progress and after seizing Romania’s national league in 2007, 2008 and 2009 the group is once more in contention for the title. In the 1/4 finals Tomis edged CSM Agronomia BUCURESTI with two straight-set wins and in the semis did the same, this time sweeping three consecutive matches against Stiinta Explorari BAIA MARE without conceding any set to their opponents.
SCMU CRAIOVA was also on a class of their own scoring two 3:0 victories over VCM LPS PIATRA NEAMT in the quarterfinals and losing only one set out of three matches in the semis where this team played last year’s national champions of Remat ZALAU. Tomis will start the Championship series by relying on the good omen contributed by their two wins in the regular season where CONSTANTA edged SCMU CRAIOVA in straight sets playing away and at the tie-break while hosting their opponents there on the shores of the Black Sea.
“I am very happy that we made it to the final without losing any set. We did not waste energy, both physically and mentally, before we embark on our chase for the national championship. We have ten days to prepare as good as possible for the final and claim the title that the club has been waiting for since four years” Tomis head coach Martin Stoev says.
