At 15-8 for Italy, the Dominicans were trying to control unclosed blocks, uncertain receptions, and unsuccessful attacks. It is on the score of 25-15 that the Italians earned the set.
The beginning of the second set was more balanced than the previous one. Marco Mencarelli’s team remained playing in a precise and powerful manner. However the Dominicans, beside a few mistakes, were able to carry out a good performance to take the lead and close the set on the score of 25-22.
In the third game, with powerful spikes from the back row and two consecutive winning serves by Paola Yonkaira, Marcos Kwieck’s squad took the lead (16-11), and further increased the gap until the end of the set (25-18). The fourth and last set began with a different scenario. Italy was first ahead with 15-10 thanks to an efficient bloc-defense. They kept the advantage until 20, before the Dominicans managed to bounce back and finally won on the score of 26-24.
