Cape Verde advanced from Pool B with a 3-1 record against Senegal (4-0), Guinea (2-2), Gambia (1-3) and Sierra Leone (0-4). Cape Verde Volleyball Federation President Antonio Rodrigues is working hard to raise the level of the national teams and promote volleyball in his country, hoping to challenge more established African powers such as Algeria and Kenya.
This is in line with the strategy of FIVB President Dr. Ary S. Graça F° to help develop volleyball in Africa.
Under an arrangement with the FIVB’s development team, Italian coach Luca Privatera has been assigned to improve Cape Verde’s performances.
In Pool N, Cape Verde will again face Senegal, along with Gambia and Guinea, and they are in good position to secure one of the two slots available in the Final Round.
Three of the matches will be broadcast live on National Radio: Cape Verde against Gambia on November 8, Gambia–Senegal on November 9 and Cape Verde-Senegal on November 10. A live TV presentation is also a possibility.
The Cape Verde team have expressed their hopes in a video ahead of this weekend’s round of matches:
