The Japanese Volleyball Federation (JVA) published the list of 12 players who will represent the women’s national team, the hosts, at the Olympics in Tokyo.
The Japan Women head coach Kumi Nakada crossed out two players from the roster that competed in the 2021 FIVB Volleyball Nations League – the outside hitter Yurie Nabeya and libero Kotoe Inoue. Captain Araki will play in her fourth Olympics, while Ishii, Tashiro, and Shimamura will become Olympians for the second time each. Other players on a list are debutants in such an event.

Opposite hitter: Ai Kurogo
Outside hitters: Sarina Koga, Mayu Ishikawa, Yuki Ishii, Kotona Hayashi
Middle blockers: Erika Araki, Haruyo Shimamura, Mai Okumura, Nichika Yamada
