GP 2014: Group A ready to go

The coaches and captains of the Japan, Russia, Turkey and USA teams in FIVB World Grand Prix Group A were in agreement that one of the most competitive pools of the competition will be staged in Ankara this weekend.

Japan coach Masayoshi Manabe said “We are very happy to be in Ankara for the first week of the FIVB World Grand Prix. We will play against good teams. We will try to get the best result.”

Japan captain Saori Kimura commented that they will play their own Japanese style and will do their best.

Yury Marichev, coach of Russia team, thanked the Turkish Volleyball Federation and added: “As you know, I was here 22 years ago as a player. It was a good time for me, I met friendly people. I hope I can show myself as a coach this time.” and captain of Russia Ekaterina Kosianenko wished good luck to all the teams.

Massimo Barbolini, coach of the Turkish National team, stressed that Group A will be an important challenge for his team: “My team and I are proud and happy to play this very hard round in Ankara. It will be an interesting competition. For us it will be a big chance to improve our level.”

Captain of the hosting team, Gozde Sonsirma stated that Turkey are very proud to host Group A in Ankara and expect a good support from their fans: “First of all we are really proud as a team to host this competition. I wish good luck to everybody. We are happy to play here. I hope everything will be great for our team for the next two weeks. And we expect our fans to be in Başkent Volleyball Hall to support us.”

USA  coach Karch Kiraly mentioned that they will measure themselves this weekend: “Our team is incredibly grateful to be here. This will be a fantastic competition. We will measure ourselves in this beautiful volleyball hall in Ankara.”

Thanks to the Turkish Volleyball Federation for hosting this week. Our team is very happy to be here. I wish best luck to all teams. Every match will be a big challenge,” said Alisha Glass, captain of USA .
