IRN: Women arrested because of volleyball!!!

by WoV

Unfortunately, it is still happening!

Ghavami

Ghavami

Ghoncheh Ghavami (25), Iranian girl with British citizenship, has been arrested in her homeland because of volleyball! She tried to enter the hall and watch World League match between Iran and Italy, but she was arrested with dozen of other girls who also wanted to attend the event!

All because in Iran it is still forbidden for women to go to sports events!

Ghavami was released after a couple of days, however, when she went back to the police station to pick up her things she was arrested again and sentenced to a two-month jail time! She was transferred in the notorious Evin prison, where all political prisoners are “locked up”.

People all around the world are making campaigns on social networks in which they demand release of Ghavami.

We will try to collect more info about this subject soon.

Unfortunately you dont know anything about the reason why Iranian government doesnt let women attend the stadium.
In Iran there are some hooligans in football stadiums. They are very impolite and cause some problems for women. government banns women just for their security.
But volleyball halls are completely different. there is no hooligan there and women could attend there before. After Iran volleyball team managed to get to world league about 2 years ago , Iranian authorities were worried that the same events which happend in football stadiums happen in volleyball hall and they decided to ban women.
Of course they had better procure security for women instead of banning them but I have heard that the government has changed this treatment recently and women can attend the hall without getting arrested.
About Ghoncheh I dont know if she is completely innocent. Yes ! if she just wanted to see the match she is innocent and has to be released . But if she is accused of other crimes such as political ones she has to be tried.
Im an Iranian girl too and I study law in Tehran university. I believe that Iran judiciary never punish innocent people.

I am surprised that you mentioned there are mobs and hooligans in the stadiums. When the stadiums are not safe places I am wondering how safe is your country in general because if police can not protect people in a closed area, imagine what might happen in the streets?

IMHO stopping people from going to the stadiums never solve the problem.

Yes I agree with you that banning women doesnt solve the problem.
There is something about the hooligans that I forgot to tell you. What do you think about the them? You think they kill women or rape them in the stadium ? these hooligans dont endanger peoples lives! They are ordinary people. They dont hurt any one. Some of them are just very impolite and swear during the match! It is the only problem they make. But Its not right for women to hear such insults. If IRAN wasnt a safe and secure country FIVB wouldnt let the matches be held there.

dear MIKE! Iranian girls can live in their country without any problem. They go to cinemas theaters parks concerts and other places. They are not allowed to attend the stadiums and only the stadiums because of the problem I said in my last comments. We live and have fun.

You said that government doesn’t allow girls to attend the matches because they care about their security? That’s how you try to solve a problem? Man, you have to punish male fans, not female! And change the law about dressing! There are many islamic girls from all over the world who don’t have to wear all that clothes like in your country.

I dont understand the relation between the topic in question and dressing in Iran, but I have to explain about it just because you exposed it.
According to Islamic rules and our holy book, women have to cover their body and hair. If in other Islamic countries girls dont do that, they violate the rules of their religion and they do wrong . We obey our religion in Iran and we do the right thing. no one has the right to order about us to violate Islam. Today covering the body and hair in Iran is one of the requirements of public order and Its very common.Even followers of other religions do it.
Whats your problem with dressing in Iran?
In all countries people cover themselves and no one appears necked in public but the way of covering and the parts of body that have to be covered, depends on the culture and religion. I have seen women in church that cover their hair , Saint Mary covered her hair too.So there is nothing improper about it even in Christianity. Was it good that Iranians would have to attend the society completely necked??1111
Another thing is that women are allowed to attend the stadium in the next world league and the problem is solved.
so there is nothing more to discuss.

Tell me one more thing. When Iranian girls leave your country, do they take off all the clothes that are bothering them? The relation with this topic is that women in your country are not free. That’s why can’t attend matches, and that’s why is she arrested. Man, do you have summer time? Think about dressing in a summer time. If you think that the most important thing in Islam is dressing, then i have nothing to say anymore. I understand all the rules from Quran, but c’mon…

I agree with you. Some of Iranian girls don’t like the head scarf and they take it off when they leave their country. But just some of them, not all of them. Some Iranian girls are proud of their hejab and never take that off.
You said women are not free in Iran. What is your definition of freedom? In my opinion freedom is having the right to use your talents and abilities in society. having the right to study, work , have fun and enjoy your life without violating the rules and other peoples’ rights. I have these things in my country so I’m free as an Iranian girl.
Most people in the world have gotten familiar with Iran through biased media , why don’t you travel to Iran to see the reality yourself in summer time ? we have light and comfortable clothes for summer in here. Islam is a humanitarian religion, how one would say that the most important thing is dressing??!! the most important thing is humans character; and also one of the issues that Islam cares about is a safe moral society , and when it comes to having a safe and moral society dressing becomes important.

Ok. I understand. I heard that in your country woman have to walk in front of man? Am I wrong? That’s from media. Please, tell me. If it not the case with your country, maybe it is happening in other countries where Islamic religion dominates…

Dear Mike, I live in Iran and I have never seen and heard such thing about walking in front of men. Women cover up in order not to be abused because of attractions of their bodies, how can we let men abuse us and exploit us like this?
I have never been to Afghanistan but I have seen this country on TV and never seen such thing.
I believe these anti-humanity , anti-Islam acts are done by terrorist groups who have occupied Afghanistan and ordinary Afghans never do it.

Do a research before you publish material against nations. Don’t be offensive. When you do that a mis-informed person like Mike allows himself to say anything he wants.
