From the beginning Poland played on high level. After a great block of Andrzej Wrona the hosts took the lead of 9-4 and the Russian coach called time out. The game wasn’t quite interesting as everybody expected.
Poland led 18-12 when Voronkow asked for the second time out. In that period of game Bartosz Kurek and Michal Kubiak were unstoppable. Poland ended the first set 25-16.
After little bit close game at the beginning of the second set (9-7), Poland again took the game in its hands. Kurek’s strong attack brought 19-13 to Poland and ace of Mateusz Mika 20-13. That was the end of the set, Poland led 2-0 and Kubiak closed the second set with a cross hit 25-17.
The third set started quite tight. Teams played point by point until 5-5 and then Poland won three points in a row for 8-5. Fantastic young player Mateusz Bieniek won three points in a row, first from the middle and than two aces for 14-10.
Kurek hits block out for 20-16 and 23-19. In that time everything was quite clear. Poland finished this set with the block 25-20.

oh yes!!!!
Poland’s defense was superb. They chased balls and were never afraid to get hit just like what happened to one of their players. Russia couldn’t figure out the young middle blocker, who also served aces. Kurek as opposite is a little bit miscast owing to his body type — not technically slender the distance from the net gives him space where to place the ball.
Butko, Mikhaylov, Savin and Russia’s MB’s did not figure in the match. Abrosimov, tall as he is, couldn’t figure out how to maximize his height. 🙂 It’s like Muserskiy is an elephant in the room.
But it’s a foregone conclusion. Russia will adjust and bounce back on the next game.
The only thing that’s positive here is that the more Russia plays the Polish squad, the better opportunity for them to learn the Poles’ rotation. This will prove significant come the European Championships.
Poland is a good team but Russia really need Muserskiy,Grankin,Spridonov,Dmitriy Ilinykh,Even Volvich since apalikov is injured.and They really need a good coach, Vladimir Alekno.Poland should collect all points from his home matches since they usually have many problems in their away matches. Antiga knows this very well.
