Dominican captain Prisilla Rivera scored 17 points, while Brayelin Martinez finished with 11. For Colombia, Maria Martínez and Diana Arrechea, registered 6 apiece.
“All the teams always start with some nerves on the first match, but everything goes out step by step. Colombia is a very young team and we tried to get the best of it, but we made some mistakes”, Rivera said about her team performance.
Colombian captain Lorena Zuleta said that “this was our first match, but we expect to achieve the best experience from this cup to mature as much as we can.”
Curiously two brazilian coaches faced each other at this match: Marcos Kwiek on the Dominican side, and Mauro Marasciulo at the front of the Colombian team.
“We have different conditions in terms of preparation because we also face different situations. One of them is the preparation to Olympic Games”, said Kwiek.
For Marasciulo this was his first experience with a group of youngsters with a special goal: “We are preparing in this tournament for the South American championships, and thus we have combined young girls with the most experienced ones”.
