The New Zealand junior men's team left for Myanmar August 17 to take part in the South East Asian Junior Men's Championships. Volleyball New Zealand (VNZ) believes this is the first New Zealand team to travel to Myanmar since the lifting of UN sanctions on that country.

The tour group is being coached by Neil Anderson, with Sam Ryburn as assistant coach and Don Thwaites as manager. Des Kerekere will also attend the Championships as referee and Dr Kim Ma’i’ai is travelling as team doctor with Joshua Ong as Physiotherapist. Both Ma’i’ai and Ong are travelling with the team at their own expense. VNZ and the athletes are grateful for their support.

The team will face opponents from the host nation, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Iran. Myanmar’s team have also organised additional training games prior to the championships opening on August 22.
