IRN: Iranian setter will retire from the national team after Rio Olympics

After 16 years of playing in the national team, the 32-year old Iranian setter Mehdi Mahdavi decided it is time for his retirement. So, he has unofficially announced that he will leave the national senior team after the Rio Olympic Games.

He will most likely continue playing for his club Sarmayeh Bank team.

„After the Rio Olympic Games I will depart from the national senior team. I feel it is time to leave the national team and make space for the younger players so they could prove themselves in near future. During all these years spent in the national team I have always tried to do my best. I have always worked hard  to make my country proud.That was my ambition. I hope that the young players will be better than me and that they will improve the volleyball in Iran even further,“ said Mahdavi.
